Charlee the Australian Cattle Dog has been taking her human, Ollie Wright, to “Man Trailing” training for the past year and the CPNW team call them to help whenever there’s an emergency.
On September 16, 2017, the CPNW radio group reported that a 16 year old girl had gone missing. She had been staying with a friend who had noticed that she’d disappeared in the early hours of the morning.
The concerned friend and family called ADT to help search for the girl and they were joined by members of the community… Charlee (and Ollie) were also called and they arrived on the scene at about 01h00.
Charlee was shown some clothes that the girl had been wearing the day before (and that hadn’t been touched by anyone else). Having scented the articles thoroughly, Charlee initially trailed into the garden, then exited the premises and headed down the dark street.
About a block away, Charlee turned abruptly into a secluded driveway, sat and gave her sign of positive indication. Torchlight revealed the missing girl who was physically fine and was reunited with her family.
The search only took about ten minutes.
Brilliant work Charlee! All that training of your handler has really paid off!
