Dog attack on Noordhoek Beach

Male Resident walking alone returning from shoreline to the top of the beach at rocks end of Noordhoek beach surrounded without warning by two dogs.

Dogs quickly began circling Resident and snapping at bare legs

Resident suffered minimum of 6 skin penetrations plus many other minor bites (photos)

Incident took 5mins plus

Owner had no control over dogs at all.

Whole Incident witnessed by two other Residents and several small children.

Owner paid no heed to demands from Resident she move away from the attack to remove herself from the melee to allow dogs to calm. By not doing so she prolonged and exacerbated situation by several minutes.

Owner expected Resident to stand still and continue to be bitten. This was not an option, owner panicking, Resident angry but calm.

Resident took to the ‘lagoon’ water thus slowing the action of the circling dogs whereupon dogs returned to owner and incident subsided.

Owner then began foul mouthed unwarranted tirade against Resident, heard and witnessed by onlookers.

Owner at no time apologised nor showed any concern or exercised any control over dogs.

Owner continued to walk dogs along beach.

Dogs:
Short haired, young, both 90cm long x 50cm tall.
One tan the other grey/brown
No discernible pedigree
Well cared for

Owner:
Overweight 55+ woman
1.50-1.60m tall
Fair hair, short but not cropped
Pink blouse

   Immediately following the prompt publication by CPNW of the previous incident report the dogs’ Owner contacted the Resident and apologised for her behaviour and that of her dogs.

   The Owner has stated the dogs will now go for training and will be kept under strict control on leads whilst out walking.

   On the basis of this and the willingness of the Owner to bring these dogs under control it has been decided to take no further action however it should be noted that this is understood not to be the first time such an incident has occurred with these dogs and the right is reserved to take further action should such an incident to happen again.

   Thanks should also be extended to those other Residents who promptly came forward as witnesses to the original incident.
