At the most recent meeting of the CPNW committee, the Chapmans Peak Volunteer Fire Unit reported that on 25 June a fire started in a patch of alien vegetation near The Dunes property. It is suspected that vagrants started a fire that went out of control in the NW wind. Fire Services were on the scene quickly and put the fire out within a couple of hours.CPVFU highlighted the existence of alien vegetation at the scene, and on other private properties in the area. This represents a significant risk that will only increase as the dry weather in summer approaches.
CPNW appeals to private landowners to take action to remove highly flammable invasive alien plants to reduce fuel biomass.
Now is a great time to do it!
