SUSPICIOUS TRESPASSER ESCORTED OUT OF THE AREA
Our new ADT patrolman, Officer Du Toit, took a call from an Avondrust Mews resident complaining of a suspicious person on her property. He is known to ADT, and he was escorted out of the area. Please notify ADT if he reappears in our area.

Dear Neighbours
We have been blessed by an unusually peaceful period as far as criminal incidents in our area are concerned. This stands out in stark contrast to the general situation in the Fishoek Valley and in Kommetjie where big increases in crime have been noticed and more recently this trend has spread to include the areas immediately around us. We are also usually afforded additional protection during the winter months when the wetlands are flooded and impassable but this is clearly not the case at the present time.
We believe that it is due to the many wonderful efforts so many members of our community have made that we have been spared, thus far, from the current crime wave, but we can be sure that it is only a matter of time before our area is targeted once again. Our best chance of maintaining the relatively good levels of security that we enjoy in our area is to ensure that we reduce our vulnerability as much as we can and that any suspicion of, or actual criminal incident, is responded to in a way that makes it abundantly clear that this is not a neighbourhood where it is easy to do crime.
So we need to ask everyone to guard against complacency! The only way to successfully maintain neighbourhood safety is to keep developing our ability to protect ourselves, our properties and one another.
Please make a point of checking alarm systems and other security measures and of reminding everyone in the household of the need to remain alert to the possibility of criminal acts in the area. If you have a radio, please do a radio check and teach the rest of your family to do so too! (If you don’t yet have a radio, give some thought to getting one.) Please report any suspicious behaviour to your local Community Connector Groups and ask the ADT Patrollers to investigate. We will also be running a few practice drills for our Response Team, K9 Unit and Fire Fighting Unit.
Let’s continue to buck the trend and make this the most crime-free summer ever!

Please keep an eye out for this man. He was involved in a burglary in our area today and apparently lives in Masi. Please ask your employees if they recognize him, a case has been opened and SAPS would like to know his address.
Armed Robbery, Mugging at Kommetjie Block House

Kommetjie Block House – verified report of another recent mugging of 2 young men, at gunpoint. Please do NOT walk there unless you are in a large group.
Dog attack on Noordhoek Beach

Male Resident walking alone returning from shoreline to the top of the beach at rocks end of Noordhoek beach surrounded without warning by two dogs.
Dogs quickly began circling Resident and snapping at bare legs
Resident suffered minimum of 6 skin penetrations plus many other minor bites (photos)
Incident took 5mins plus
Owner had no control over dogs at all.
Whole Incident witnessed by two other Residents and several small children.
Owner paid no heed to demands from Resident she move away from the attack to remove herself from the melee to allow dogs to calm. By not doing so she prolonged and exacerbated situation by several minutes.
Owner expected Resident to stand still and continue to be bitten. This was not an option, owner panicking, Resident angry but calm.
Resident took to the ‘lagoon’ water thus slowing the action of the circling dogs whereupon dogs returned to owner and incident subsided.
Owner then began foul mouthed unwarranted tirade against Resident, heard and witnessed by onlookers.
Owner at no time apologised nor showed any concern or exercised any control over dogs.
Owner continued to walk dogs along beach.

One tan the other grey/brown
No discernible pedigree

Potential squatting activity

We have been asked to keep an eye out for any signs of potential squatting activity or preparations to erect structures on any open land in the area, particularly near the sports fields and wetlands. Situation in Masiphumelele – brief update Friday late afternoon

The alleged accused Lubabalo Vellem’s bail hearing has been postponed until Monday. Protestors outside Simonstown Court blocked off a section of Main road. Traffic being redirected via Runsmuncian Drive. Kommetjie main Rd and other routes along the way are currently quiet.
Please remain aware tonight and over the week-end as we are not sure how this will affect the peace. We will try to keep you updated as things progress.
Masi unrest

The latest round of protest at Masi is as a result of the arrest of a local community leader. There are serious charges laid against him and it is probable (although there is no certainty about this), that he will not be released on bail. His case is being heard on Monday at 10am.
It is highly likely that there will be a repeat of Friday’s unrest starting tonight (Sunday 25th) or tomorrow morning.
This probably also means that residents of Masi will not be able to leave the area and that roads e.g Kommetjie road will be blocked.
The initial aim of the protests was to cause “dislocation”, that is to prevent people from going about their normal business. However, this has escalated and there is now seems to be a deliberate intent to damage property in the neighbouring areas, the most vulnerable being Lekkerwater Road and Fish Eagle Park.
People with businesses in either of these locations are advised NOT to try and protect their property as this may hamper the security forces. Rather remove important documents and keep them elsewhere until the area is safe again.
There is also a definite indication that there is a minority of people in Masi driving the unrest. They appear to be well organized, have intelligence and are probably also feeding disinformation to the authorities. They operate in “pods” or “cells” and are well coordinated.
It is very important that an us-or-them situation doesn’t prevail. We need to show solidarity with the general community in Masi and to support them as a community. They are, after all, part of a our valley community and we should try to reinforce that.
Security Forces on the scene will do their best to prevent damage to property. They will also try to contain the unrest to the immediate area. There are SAPS units from multiple police stations present and on stand-by as well as other units (Public Order etc etc). The situation is being run from a JOC (Joint operational control) located at Living Hope. Local NW’s are all involved and are on the ground in the area a lot of the time. NW’s are performing an “eyes and ears” role as well as helping with co-ordination. All NW activity will happen on Channel 1.
We ask residents in Chappies to remain calm but stay alert. Volunteers may be needed and requests for this will be made from time to time.
All residents are requested to be on the lookout for anything suspicious. Bear in mind that on top of the normal criminal suspicious activity we are to look for “unusual activity”. Not only in our area, but anything that is noticed in our valley, whilst traveling around for example. This may also be information received from employees. Do not post it on social media but rather use the numbers below.

“Normal” criminal activity is to be reported through the usual channels (radio, whatsapp groups, ADT). Any other unusual activity is to be reported directly to Patrick Wright (082 652 7474) or Craig Botha (083 2006482). We will then escalate it to the JOC who will then assimilate and assess the information.
We will also use this channel to report back to our community. Information will be posted out via the normal channels (email, whatsapp, Noordhoek Watch FB) as and when we receive it.
In summary, this is not a short-term thing. We need to be prepared for repeated protests and to join together as a community to work on sorting this out over time.

Balaclava Gang

We had another Balaclava Gang attack in the early hours of the morning (Friday 29/05/2015) . This time it was a couple staying in rental accommodation in the Caravan Park on Noordhoek main road.
The victims were tied up and robbed of laptops, cellphones and some cash. They were not hurt.
SAPS attended promptly but the robbers had gone.
All indications are that it is the same group who robbed the cottage in Aquanaut Close last week-end and we have been told that it is highly likely that there will be another attack soon. It also seems almost certain that they leave by car.
We therefore ask all residents of Noordhoek to raise the level of awareness, to make 100% sure that everything is locked up at night and that all alarms are set appropriately. If you have a radio make sure that it is charged and switched on.
Please keep an eye out for any suspicious looking cars at night and let us know if you notice anything odd.
Please also check your fences to make sure that they are secure. In some cases holes may be cut in boundary fences to facilitate entry or exit points.
Woman Hitchhiker Scam Artist

Do not pick up this woman! There are numerous recent reports of a woman scam artist who is known to be operating in our area and in the southern suburbs, primarily as a HITCHHIKER. She can be quite abusive and aggressive once in the car, demanding money, and has forcibly taken valuables (wallets, phones, etc).
MO: Hitchhikes or approaches cars at all hours with a sob story asking for a lift to various places (Noordhoek, Longbeach Mall, Blue Route). Often seen on Ou Kaapse Weg, Main Road, Silvermine Roads, but also in Kirstenhof, Kalk Bay, Muizenburg.
DESCRIPTION: Dark hair, height medium to tall, slim, distinctive marks tear shaped tattoo or birthmark under her left eye, age estimate mid-20s. No photo is currently available.
